turns out I do know the way to San Jose

San Jose was a high and low place for me. We finished off the third leg of this tour and had to let go of several sensational people, some of whom have been with us from the start. You would have read already how attached I’ve become with my new friends, and even now, as I write this four days later, I’m still looking for them each time we get off a bus or listen for their names when room assignments are called out. A few of the other long term groupies are also having withdrawals. It’s like losing family and I know that feeling all too well with the world’s best sister living overseas.

We resolved to go out with a bang and had a blast at a club, dancing the night away, drinking more rum than I can remember actually ordering – I blame the free-pour principle – and trying and failing not to cry during Ernie’s farewell speech. I saw a fair bit of San Jose on my last trip so wasn’t too worried about a sleep in this time. We couldn’t face breakfast until about 11.30am after dragging a few hangovers out of bed into the sunshine and a walk around the town centre, just spending time with people. After dinner we started handing people over to the airport transfer gods and wishing them all the best for their travels home to be smooth and safe. Perhaps we should have gone a step further and sacrificed something as some encountered delays and cancellations…maybe I should start scouting for a suitable sacrificial something for my trip to Caracas on 21st March?

We left San Jose the next day bound for Puerto Viejo in a public bus…back on the road again.
